You can control the way in which data is displayed to you on the Cost Breakdown Structure form.
The display options provided on the Cost Breakdown Structure form are:
4-level: Standard display mode – shows 4 consecutive levels of the cost breakdown structure.
3-level: Shows 3 consecutive levels. Typically used when long numbers or names need to be seen.
2-level: Shows 2 consecutive levels. Typically used when very long numbers or names need to be seen.
Single Column: Shows all cost items in a single column.
Large Numbers: Version of Single Column mode, used when there are very large cost item numbers.
Numbers Only: Shows 8 consecutive levels of the cost breakdown structure, without any names. Typically used for diagnostic purposes.
You may vary the font size to show more detail.
The example below shows Single Column mode.
Display Levels (Display Compression)
You can show every item in the cost breakdown structure or only those down to a given level. For the latter, click on Display to level in the Show Data frame, then dial up the lowest level you wish to see. For example, if you wish to display the level 1 and level 2 items only, dial up 2. Click on Show all to restore the complete display.
Hide Level Zero
Every project has a level zero cost item, which is created by Mandrel when the datafile is first opened. The level zero item is necessary when creating the top levels of the cost breakdown structure, but it is normally not necessary to see it thereafter. You may optionally hide the level zero cost item by checking the Hide level zero box.
Showing Filled Cost Items
Cost data is entered into individual cost items elsewhere once the cost item has been created. Clicking on the Show Filled button will cause cost items which have data in them to be displayed in blue. Unfilled items will remain black. Closed items will not change color, even if they have data in them.
Any cost item may be designated as a risk by assigning it a probability of less than 100%. Clicking on the Show Risks button will cause all risk items to be shown in red. Closed items will not change color, regardless of their risk status.
Searching for Cost Items
The Find facility on the Cost Breakdown Structure form allows you to search for individual cost items by number, name, or part of a name.
Mandrel will attempt to interpret any text entered into the Find box as a cost item number. If it is successful it will search for an item with that number. If it cannot be interpreted as a number it will then search for that text as part of a cost item name. Searching is not case sensitive.
If the Hide Closed button has been clicked so that closed items are not shown, searching will ignore closed cost items. If you want to search closed as well as open items, the closed items must be visible.
