Cost Register Header Block Fields
The Cost Register header block contains general data which is not specific to any particular cost item, such as unit prices or tax rates. The header block is constructed as a table with its own rows and columns. Each cell in the table contains a single field.
The Cost Register Designer Report Fields page allows you to controls all aspects of the fields included in the report. This page has two operating modes - Report Body and Header Block. Ensure the Header Block button at top left of the page is depressed in order to work on the header block fields.
Field control involves specifying which fields are to be included in the header block and in what order.
Adding a New Field
Click on the Add Fields button to add one or more new header block fields. Header block fields are always non-cost fields in the sense that they do not refer to cost values in individual cost items. However, they may contain general cost values such as a labor rate or a materials price. New fields are selected in a two-part process. In step one you select the general field category, in step two you select the specific field within that category.
Deleting a Field
Select the field to be deleted, then click on the Delete Field button.
Changing Field Positions
Fields are numbered in the header table in raster fashion, i.e. from left to right across the columns, then from top to bottom. The order of the fields shown in the main display area represents this raster order. Select a field and use the Move field up/down arrows to change its position.
Each cell in the header table contains an explanatory title (‘header title’) and the actual data item. The title will, by default, be the field name shown in the main display box. You can change this title by selecting a field and typing a new title into the Header Title box above the main display area. You can also leave the title blank.
Number of Columns
The header table can have from 1 to 8 columns of data.
All fields in the header block have the same width. You can either make the header block the same width as the report body, in which case field width depends on the number of columns you are using, or you can control the field width independently, via the Column Width control.
This frame also shows the overall report width, which will be either the header block width or the report body width, whichever is greater, and the scaling that will be required to fit the report into a single sheet width when printing it. (Cost register reports are always compressed on printing into a the width of a single sheet, although they may occupy multiple sheets lengthwise.) To maintain readability it is recommended that you keep the scaling factor at not less than about 80%.
Field formatting involves specifying how a particular field is to look in the report.
Text wrap is not available for header block fields.
You may control the horizontal alignment (left, center, or right) of each field individually. You can show field alignments in the main display area by clicking on the Show alignment box in the Field Control frame.
You may select the number of decimal places to be shown with each numeric field individually.
You may select the text color, background color, font size and bold/italic/underline characteristics of each field individually.
